Walk ‘n Pray

Prayer Campain with Utah Churches

In 2002 the ICPA invited Dean Trune to Utah to lead a team of church leaders from around the country to pray through Utah’s Wasatch Front from Ogden, through Salt Lake, and down to Provo. We prayed because this area has been one of the hardest places to start new churches. We prayed because less than 3% of the state is part of a Christian church. We prayed because we know we have no power to change the spiritual climate without the intervention of God. Dean came back 7 of the next 8 years leading prayer initiatives and summits in this region.

Out of these prayer retreats at least one church was birthed when God opened Kyle Costello’s eyes to the need in Utah and moved his family to Utah to start Missio Dei. We also saw a new ministry start at the University of Utah when Tommy White came to pray over this area and started a chapter of Impact Campus Ministries.

This year, Utah churches organized to put on their own prayer campaign through churches connected with Loving Utah. In February, they brought Dean back to the state to inspire 50 pastors to pray as the first step to see renewal happen in this state. Then, on March 1st, they launched a prayer walking campaign that lasted through Easter.

The churches wanted to know which areas of the valley had been walked, so they partnered with a Swiss app developer to upgrade and further develop a prayer app called Walk ‘n Pray. They started their own campaign and tracked over 1000 miles over the Lenten season, asking God to bring new life into their valley. The ICPA was able to be a small part of this by contributing to the development of the app and by being part of this rich history of prayer in this region.

Through this campaign, the churches saw several give their life to Christ. One man, a skeptic toward Christ, attended Lifestone Church in Herriman, UT, and heard about the Walk ‘n Pray app. He decided to go out on a prayer walk that week. In the quiet space he found with God, he realized he believed and committed his life to Christ. He was baptized later that week.

We are excited to see what ministries and churches are birthed through this prayer walking initiative.
